Inside Out - LaF 54

This week on LaF the guys are talking about Pixar's newest film Inside Out. This animated film stars Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, and Lewis Black. This high concept film goes inside the mind of a young girl to watch her emotions try to guide her through the difficult time of moving across the country and having to deal with a new home, school, and city. Critics have been universal in their praise for this film and are calling it one of the best films Pixar has ever made. Tune in and find out where the L-Train and Mr. Two-Frames rank this film.

Wee LaF for the June 26th Weekend - LaF 53

LaF is back with another Wee LaF episode, letting you know what your weekend entertainment options are. For the June 26th weekend, there are two major releases hitting theaters nationwide. Ted 2 starring Seth MacFarlane and Mark Wahlberg tries to recapture the magic of the first film that generated over half a billion dollars back in 2012. This time around, Ted is going to court to prove that this teddy bear is a person in order to qualify to become a parent. Families looking to steer clear of the R-rated comedy Ted will do better going to watch MaxMax is the heart warming story of a US Marine's dog that returns home from Afghanistan and is adapted by his handler's family after a mission goes badly. The L-Train has some streaming picks to share as well. 

Jurassic World - LaF 52

The L-Train and Mr. Two-Frames are reviewing Jurassic Park for episode 52. Starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, this blockbuster is the fourth film in the Jurassic Park series. Once again, dinosaurs are running loose and causing chaos. The co-hosts were split in their enthusiasm going into the film. Find out if the movie lived up to the hype or 500 billion dollars worth of theaters goers wasted their money on the opening weekend.

Wee LaF for the June 20 Weekend - LaF 51

For episode 51, LaF is covering the new box office releases for the June 20 weekend. Opening in wide release is Pixar's newest film Inside Out starring Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, and Lewis Black. The movie follows Riley, a young girl, as she moves to San Francisco and has to deal with a new city, house, school. The twist is that the film goes inside her head to show her emotions Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust, and Sadness as individual characters. Also opening is the teen comedy Dope starring Shameik Moore and Tony Revolori. The film follows Malcolm and his friends as they go all over Los Angeles after an underground party goes badly and leaves them with a backpack full of drugs. At the end of show, Mr. Two-Frames pays up for losing the Spring Box Office challenge.

Top 5 Films of the LaF Era - LaF 50

It is time to celebrate. LaF has made it to 50 episodes. The show was originally started in September of 2012 and was meant to only be heard by the co-hosts' students. At the beginning of 2015, the show moved to iTunes in order to reach a broader audience. To honor the longevity of the podcast, the L-Train and Mr. Two-Frames are naming their top five movies of the LaF era. These films highlight in their own way the many reasons the fellas love cinema.

Episode 49 of LaF, finds Mr. Two-Frames beside himself with excitement. On this Weekend Entertainment Edition, the fellas are talking about Jurassic World starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. The film takes place 22 years after Jurassic Park with things finally running smoothly for a number of years until the opening of a new attraction brings large problems. Opening in limited release this weekend is the teen cancer dramedy Me and Earl and the Dying Girl starring Thomas Mann, RJ Cyler, and Olivia Cooke. Paths of Glory - LaF 48

For episode 48, LaF is reviewing the Stanley Kubrick classic Paths of Glory. This 1957 films stars Kirk Douglass as Colonel Dax, the commander of the 701 Regiment of the French Army during World War 1. Trouble arises after the soldiers refuse to continue a suicidal attack on the enemy stronghold. The L-Train and Mr. Two-Frames sit down to discuss the importance of this film and its influence on later Kubrick films like Dr. Strangelove and Full Metal Jacket. The discussion of this hidden gem war movie does contain spoilers so it is recommended that you go view the movie first.

Wee LaF for the June 5 Weekend - LaF 47

LaF is back after a one week hiatus. Episode 47 has The L-Train and Mr. Two-Frames previewing three major releases for the June 5 weekend. Opening early on Wednesday is Entourage which reunites the cast of the same titled hit HBO show in the continuing Hollywood adventures of Vincent, Eric, Turtle, and Johnny Drama. This weekend sees a second comedy get released with Spy starring Melissa McCarthy as a CIA desk jockey turned undercover agent. This film reunites Melissa McCarthy with director Paul Feig, who previously made her a star in films like Bridesmaids and The Heat. For the PG-13 horror fans, is the prequel Insidious: Chapter 3 starring Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott. Also, the guys share their streaming  and Redbox picks for the week.

Mad Max Fury Road

This week on LaF, the guys review a summer blockbuster thirty years in the making. Mad Max: Fury Road starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron is one of the best reviewed action movies in years. The Magistedrops by the studio to help the L-Train and Mr. Two-Frames review this instant classic from director George Miller.  ***Warning*** This episode does contain spoilers during the second half of the podcast. Wee LaF for the May 22 Weekend - LaF 45

For the Memorial Day Weekend, LaF is previewing two films opening in wide release. Episode 45 looks at Tomorrowland starring Britt Robertson and George Clooney, which is an original story from Pixar director Brad Bird. For nostalgic horror-fans, the remake of Poltergeist opens on over 3,200 screens. This time Sam Rockwell and Rosmarie DeWitt play the parents trying to rescue their daughter after her abduction by spirits haunting the family home. The L-Train and Mr. Two-Frames have Redbox and streaming picks for those staying at home this weekend. 


Mad Max Trilogy - LaF 44

This episode of the LaF features the guys are talking about the Mad Max trilogy. These films star Mel Gibson at the titular character in George Miller's Australian apocalyptic masterpieces.  Before they head off this weekend to watch Mad Max: Fury Road, the L-Train and Mr. Two-Frames had to go and rewatch the films. Beware this episode contains major spoilers for Mad Max, Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, and  Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. 


Wee LaF for the May 15 Weekend - LaF 43

The Summer movie season is fully upon us this weekend. In episode 43, the L-Train and Mr. Two-Frames preview two huge releases for the May 15th weekend. First up is Mad Max: Fury Road starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. For thirty years, fans have been waiting for the fourth Mad Max film from director George Miller and the guys from LaF could not be more excited. Pitch Perfect 2 is the second film opening in wide release this weekend.  Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson reprise their roles from the 2012 sleeper hit Pitch Perfect. This counter-programming is going to make the Box Office Challenge interesting as both hosts have a film opening this weekend. If you plan to stay at home, the guys have Redbox and Amazon Prime picks for you. Starting this week, the L-Train will also give a net pick for Netflicks.

Slow West and Avengers: Age of Ultron - LaF 42

LaF has a double review show for episode 42. This week the guys review films that are the biggest release of the year in their respective genres; Westerns and Superheroes. The L-Train and Mr. Two-Frames breakdown the two genres and discuss what makes them similar and different. Mr. Two-Frames gives his review of Avengers: Age of Ultron, explaining why he believes it is the best movie yet from Marvel. Later in the show, the L-Train gives his review of Slow West starring Michael Fassbender as a mysterious traveler helping a teen boy journey across the frontier.

Opening in select theaters is the Jack Black comedy The D Train also starring James Marsden. Lastly, is the action-thriller Skin Trade starring the timeless Dolph Lundgren and Ron Perlman. The question becomes, who is testing whom? Both the L-Train and Mr. Two-Frames have been eager to watch this film, but they are not in agreement about the success of the film. Wee LaF for April 17 Weekend - LaF #35

LaF is discussing three films on this Weekend Entertainment Edition of LaF. The biggest release of the weekend is the sequel Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 which stars Kevin James reprising the titular role after six long years. For the horror fans, MTV is releasing the supernatural thriller Unfriended, which stars a bunch of scared teenagers being haunted in a chat room. Lastly, in limited release is Child 44 starring Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman. This thriller about a Stalin-era military police officer's investigation into a series of child murders is one of the L-Train's most eagerly anticipated films of the Spring.
