Man from Reno and Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter - LaF 72

For episode 72, LaF is reviewing two art house films that are available for streaming. Man from Reno is a mystery story set in San Francisco. A famous Japanese writer meets a mysterious man whose sudden disappearance leaves her with a suitcase as her only clue to finding him. Along the way she crosses paths with a small town sheriff who is trying to find his own mystery man. The second film has the L-Train and Mr. Two bitterly divided. Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter is about a jaded Japanese woman who travels to Fargo, North Dakota in the hope of finding the briefcase full of money from the movie Fargo. She believes that a worn out VHS tape of the movie is actually a treasure map to the fictional fortune. Find out why one host loved the film and why one will never recommend the movie to anyone.

Wee LaF for the August 21 Weekend - LaF 71

LaF is covering three big releases for the August 21 weekend on episode 71. American Ultra starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart is a stoner action comedy that has the government trying to kill their most dangerous and highest agent. This "high" concept film was written by Max Landis, the son of Blues Brothers director John Landis. Also opening, is the video game inspired action movie Hitman: Agent 47. The assassin with a bar code on the back of his neck is teaming up with a mysterious woman to help her find her father and kill lots of people. Lastly, is Sinister 2 the sequel to the 2012 sleep hit horror movie. A mother and her twin sons are trouble when they move into a scary rural house that is trying to kill them.

The Gift - LaF 70

LaF is back with another movie review for episode 70. The L-Train and Mr. Two-Frames are discussing the new feature film The Gift starring Jason Bateman, Rebecca Hall, and Joel Edgerton. The movie centers around a young married couple whose lives are thrown into chaos when an old acquaintance from the husband's past won't leave them alone. Joel Edgerton wrote and directed this film in additional to playing the creepy Gordo "the Weirdo". Also, LaF discusses the thrillers as a whole, and why Mr. Two-Frames feels there are so many hidden gems in this genre.

Wee LaF for the August 14 Weekend - LaF 69

Summer might be ending, but LaF never stops. Episode 69 sees the L-Train and Mr. Two-Frames previewing two new films hitting theaters on August 14. Straight Outta Compton is a biopic from director F. Gary Gray which traces rap group NWA rise to fame. Set in California during the mid-1980s, the film explores how Ice Cube and Dr. Dre revolutionized Hip Hop. Also in wide release, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. starring Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, and Alicia Vikander is a re-imagining of the 1960s spy tv show of the same name. Cavill and Hammer star as CIA and KGB operatives respectively, who must work together to prevent the sale of nuclear weapons and the end of the world.
